Instant Calm: The 3-Minute Bajan Pause Blueprint

0 of 6 steps done

The Bajan Pause is a powerful 3-minute technique developed from traditional Caribbean relaxation practices. It's specifically designed for high-achieving women who struggle to transition between their professional and personal lives.

Step 1: Recognize (30 seconds)

Place your hand on your heart. Take a deep breath and acknowledge your current state without judgment. Notice where you're holding tension in your body. Say to yourself: 'I notice I'm feeling [emotion] right now, and that's okay.'

Step 2: Release (1 minute)

Close your eyes. Inhale deeply through your nose for 4 counts, hold for 2, and exhale through your mouth for 6 counts. As you exhale, visualize tension leaving your body as warm, golden light. Repeat this breathing pattern 4 times, focusing on a different area of tension with each breath.

Step 3: Reset (1 minute)

Gently roll your shoulders back and down. Rotate your wrists and ankles in small circles. Imagine your spine lengthening, creating space between each vertebra. Place your palms together at heart center and apply gentle pressure — this activates your parasympathetic nervous system, signaling your body to calm down.

Step 4: Reconnect (30 seconds)

Set a clear intention for your next activity or interaction. Visualize yourself being fully present, calm, and engaged. Say to yourself: 'I am here now. I choose to be fully present for [activity/person].'

When to Use the Bajan Pause

Between client calls or coaching sessions. Before transitioning from work to family time. When you feel overwhelmed or notice physical tension. Before important conversations or decisions. First thing in the morning to set your day's intention.

The Science and Your Daily Practice

The Bajan Pause activates your relaxation response through diaphragmatic breathing (reduces cortisol and activates the vagus nerve), proprioceptive input (pressure and movement reorient your nervous system), and mindful awareness (interrupts stress patterns and creates new neural pathways). Practice 3 times daily during transitions, consistently for at least 21 days, with full presence and intention — quality over quantity.

This practice is not about perfection. It's about creating a moment of conscious transition that allows you to show up as your best self in every area of your life.
