The Open Door Scripts

0 of 6 steps done

Most entrepreneurs try to grow by building everything themselves: new offers, new audiences, new systems, all from zero. But the fastest path to scale rarely starts empty handed. Somewhere near you right now is a business, an audience, or a relationship already built, one a simple conversation could turn into your next stage of growth. These are the five conversations that open that door. Use them as written, or adjust them to sound like you.

The Warm Partnership Ask

Use this when you want to propose a joint venture with a business that already serves your ideal client, without asking for anything for free. Send this as a direct message or email: 'Hi [Name], I have been following what you have built with [specific thing they do]. I work with a similar audience through [what you do], and I think there is a version of this where we both win. Would you be open to a 15 minute call to explore a simple partnership, no pitch, just an idea?' Keep it short. The ask is for a conversation, not a commitment.

The Quiet Acquisition Opener

Many owners who would sell have never been asked. This script opens that door gently, without pressure: 'Hi [Name], I admire what you have built at [business]. I am not sure if this is something you have ever considered, but I would love to understand your long term plans for the business. If a conversation about a potential transition is ever something you would welcome, I would be glad to talk, no obligation either way.' Send it as a personal note, not a mass message. The goal is one honest reply, not a yes.

The Equity for Access Proposal

When a business has an audience, a system, or an asset you need but capital is tight, propose equity or revenue share instead of cash: 'I do not have a large budget to offer, but I do have [specific asset: your skill, your audience, your systems]. Would you be open to structuring this as a partnership where I contribute [specific asset] in exchange for a share of what we build together, rather than a flat fee?' Be specific about what you bring. Vague offers get vague answers.

The Legacy Reassurance Script

Owners who are close to selling often stall because they worry what happens to their team, their clients, and their name. Address it directly: 'Whatever we build together, my goal is to protect what you have created, not replace it. I would want your team and your clients to feel the transition as continuity, not disruption. Can we talk through what matters most to you before we talk through numbers?' This script earns trust before it earns a deal.

The Warm Introduction Request

Your existing network already knows people you have not met yet. Use this to activate it: 'I am exploring a few strategic partnerships and acquisitions this year, specifically with businesses that [describe your ideal target]. If anyone comes to mind, I would be grateful for an introduction, no pressure on their end either.' Send it to five people who know your world. One warm introduction beats fifty cold outreaches.

The Follow Up That Closes the Maybe

Most deals die in the silence after a promising first call, not in a rejection. Send this within 48 hours: 'Thank you for the conversation, I have been thinking about what we discussed. Here is what I see as a clear next step: [one specific, small next step]. Does that work for you, or is there a different next step you would rather take?' A specific next step moves people forward. An open ended 'let me know your thoughts' does not.

Growth does not require you to reinvent what already exists elsewhere. It requires you to ask, clearly and confidently, for access to it. Pick one script above, pick one real person, and start the conversation this week.
